Deciphering the Dwight Howard Situation

In a season filled with numerous Dwight Howard trade rumors, a new possibility has opened up after he announced that the Bulls have made his “list” of teams he would like to be traded to. Trading Dwight Howard to the Bulls would actually benefit the Magic more than any other deal because they would be receiving three guys who are proven NBA players, two of whom are on the cusp of All-Star status.

The most likely trade scenario would be:

Magic trade:

Dwight Howard, Chris Duhon, Hedo Turkoglu and Ryan Anderson

Bulls trade:

Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson, Ronnie Brewer and possibly Omer Asik

While there is a lot of sentiment towards Deng, Noah, Brewer, Gibson and Asik among Bulls fans, they will need to look past it and realize that they are getting the most dominant center in basketball since Shaquille O’Neal. With Rose and Howard on the same team, it would be regarded as one of the most dominant tandems of all time. Having the best player at one position on your team is one thing, but have the best center and best point guard (arguably the two most important positions on the court) in the league on the same team equals championship contention for years to come.

The trade would also revamp a poor Magic team who are still expected to be in the playoffs this season. With the additions of Noah, Deng etc. this trade could look a lot like how the Nuggets dramatically improved after trading Carmelo to the Knicks for four players last season. It would give the a much different look, but they would be a more team-oriented club, which some people tend to forget is a good thing in the NBA.

After all is said and done, the likelihood of Howard being traded to the Bulls is extremely slim right now as the Bulls have yet to respond to any questions regarding a trade for Dwight Howard as of today. However, as we all know, in the world of sports things can change in a matter of minutes and we could be seeing Dwight in the United Center in a few weeks.
