As I said last week, Sidney Crosby will never be the same player he once was. Throughout the rest of his career he will have to be extremely cautious in one of the most physical sports in the world. He has been yet again diagnosed with “concussion like symptoms” and will have to sit out for an undisclosed amount of time. The last time Crosby got a concussion was January 5th, 2011 and he had to sit out for over 10 months. At some point it seems like the only option will be an early retirement for Sid the Kid. There is no way of knowing right now how long Crosby will be out this time, but one thing is certain, he won’t be back any time soon. As we have learned in the last five or so years, concussions have been the cause of severe brain trauma. Most recently, former Chicago Bears defensive back Dave Duerson who committed suicide, had severe brain issues after having multiple concussions throughout his NFL career. A huge study was launched to link brain trama from concussions with depression and suicide, confirming that they were related. If Crosby were smart, he should be extremely careful with all of these concussions and should definitely think long and hard about ending his career before it’s too late.
