After a long day involving seemingly thousands of rumors for the top free agents in the MLB, we haven’t had any resolution on where the best free agents will be bringing their talents. Albert Pujols’ camp reported yesterday around 4:00 PM that he would have a decision made by the end of the night on the huge contract that the Marlins offered him, but of course at around 3:00 AM he decided he wasn’t ready to make a decision. Is it me or is this whole free agency thing getting to Pujols’ head? It’s obvious that he is the best player in baseball right now and he deserves an enormous contract, but this is a side of Phat Al that we have never seen.
As far a Prince Fielder’s concern, it seems like there is a new team in the lead to sign him every couple of hours whether it is the Cubs, Marlins, Angels, Nationals, Orioles, Mariners or possibly even going back to Milwaukee to make another World Series run. The top two pitchers, Mark Buerhle and C.J. Wilson seem to be getting closer to a decision and it was just recently reported that Buerhle has cut his list of teams down to 3 and expects to make a decision at some point today. Then there is the Cuban phenom, Yoenis Cespedes, who has been linke to over ten ball clubs, and asking for a hefty contract around 60 million. There has even been a rumor that surfaced today involving the Phillies making a deal for the young left handed pitcher, Gio Gonzalez, who has shown promise that he will turn out to be a top pitcher in the MLB in the next year or so.
As far as predictions, here is where it seems like the top five players will end up:
Albert Pujols: He seems very intrigued by the Marlins offer and their newfound spending habits. For right now, that seems to be the most likely destination for Pujols, however the Cardinals are just barely behind them in that race.
Prince Fielder: It’s hard to say where he will end up because of the high number of teams that are interested in him. As of now, it looks like the Mariners and Nationals are in the lead for acquiring him, but the Cubs look to be right below them and may shock everyone.
C.J. Wilson: Again, a lot of teams are interested in picking Wilson up, but it looks like he will either be back with the Rangers or sign a huge contract with the Angels.
Mark Buerhle: Right now, it is unclear who the three teams are that he has cut his list down to, but it looks like he will sign with either the Nationals, Marlins or Cubs.
Yoenis Cespedes: The market seems pretty clear for Cespedes and it seems he will sign with either the Detroit Tigers or the Washington Nationals
